2009 Shovel Ready and Raring to Go

Over 300 people attended Settlement Housing Fund's 20th Annual benefit at Landmark on the Park on June 4th. The event honored Nick Lembo, President of Monadnock Construction, and the Fund for the City of New York.  With hard hats and scaffolding on hand, we celebrated both these two great friends of Settlement Housing Fund and our "shovel ready" project, the New Settlement Community Campus.  Nick Lembo, a leading builder of affordable housing, was our partner on a complex of 37 two-family homes in Brooklyn that we sold, predominantly to families who lived in public housing.  And the Fund for the City of New York gave us our first grant to start our organization in 1969 and has been there for us since with its cash-flow loan program, which helps nonprofit groups manage their short-term needs while waiting for government reimbursements.  Mary McCormick, the Fund's President, and Andrew Walrond, Loan Officer, accepted the award. We are grateful to our honorees, our Committee, and the many friends and colleagues who supported the event.
